The Veil

Salam.
Was too busy to write anything.
But i really want to share this song with my friends out there.

The Veil
by:- Dawud Wharnasby Ali

They say, "Oh, poor girl, you're so beautiful you know
It's a shame that you cover up your beauty so."
She just smiles and graciously responds reassuringly,
"This beauty that I have is just one simple part of me.
This body that I have, no stranger has the right to see.
These long clothes, this shawl I wear, ensure my modesty.
Faith is more essential than fashion, wouldn't you agree?

This hijab,
This mark of piety,
Is an act of faith, a symbol,
For all the world to see.
A simple cloth, to protect her dignity.
So lift the veil from your heart to see the heart of purity.

They tell her, "Girl, don't you know this is the West and you are free?
You don't need to be oppressed, ashamed of your femininity."
She just shakes her head and she speaks so assuredly,

"See the bill-boards and the magazines that line the check-out isles, with their phony painted faces and their air-brushed smiles?
Well their sheer clothes and low cut gowns are really not for me.
You call it freedom, I call it anarchy."

This hijab,
This mark of piety,
Is an act of faith, a symbol,
For all the world to see.
A simple cloth, to protect her dignity.
So lift the veil from your heart to see the heart of purity.
Lift the veil from your heart and seek the heart of purity.

CARES

Salam.
It's been a while since i write here.
Not to say i was too busy studying, neither no internet connection.
But simply because i dont have anything to tell.
Hurm...

I'll talk abt CARES today then.
It's a charity organisation that helps to relief children with cancer's pain by playing with them and entertaining them.
It's not to give them medical support, medical advise or anything but merely to play with the kids.
So today will be my first session with CARES and i'm going to PPUM (Pusat Perubatan Univ Malaya) to visit the kids there. I hope it's gonna be beneficial to all party, be it me or the kids.

CONFIDENTIALITY
As for confidentiality, i'm still very unclear on what i shdnt or shd  tell ppl. I mean, i know doctors shd not expose their patients datas and infos to public but what is it that shd not be told?
Can doctors tell their family that one of their patient is going to have his hand or leg amputated because of diabetes? or can doctors tell anybody else that one of their patients is having a heart attack right after a car accident etc? then, in my case here, i'm not even a doctor yet. Just a medical student. Can i or can i not tell anybody abt the conditions of the kids in the ward? can i or can i not, describe it to other ppl that one of the kids there is bald, or looks very pale, or even cant move because of the chemotherapy treatment? p/s: i'm not describing here, i've not been there yet!

Ok, a lot more to learn on confidentiality.

Gtg now! will be very pleased to get some feedbacks!
p/s: i know i have some readers who do not leave any comment at all. Why? Leave some comment-lah! Share ur thoughts... =)

Alhamdulillah (Praise to God)

Salam....
Yess, at last...!
I can breathe again, my A Levels result is finally out and validated.
I first got the result on the 12th but as it was only "as for now", i dare not actually celebrate it. But today, the piece of paper is in my hand. Alhamdulillah, praise to Allah, i got a 15 = 3 full A's.

Although the breakdown of the mark for each unit was slightly lower than what i expected, but i am still grateful. My mum said, "with that lifestyle of urs, this is good already". Ok mum...

We (me, Hui Fong, Ah Q, Siew Huan and August) went to INTEC right after our Medical Museum Session. We reached INTEC before 1pm and managed to have lunch with Mr Allan (wanna read abt him? click here =P) and his wife. Yay! Luckily the Ausmat cafe is open thus we do not have to go far for a lunch.

Before we reached INTEC, we went to search for a special gift for Mr Allan first, which was a pack of nasi lemak! The adventure to search for it was an interesting one as nasi lemak is rarely sold in the afternoon. Malaysians usually take it for breakfast. Luckily we managed to get one seller right before they closed their stall and we bought the last packet.

There were a lot of topics being talked abt during lunch. Some of us talked among ourselves, some of us talk with Mr Allan's wife, and some of us talk with Mr Allan himself. The "some of us" refers to students who stayed back to have lunch together. However, we ("we refers to me, Hui Fong, Q, Huan and August) cant afford to spend much time there as i need to go for a meeting with somebody for the ALMANAC magazine. Hence we left earlier. I felt awfully heavy-hearted to leave the crowd. Hurm...

Lastly, thanks and congratulations to each and every one of us for succesfully graduated from our A Levels with good grades, and good disciplines.
I think the reason we were well disciplined is our exam was really early that the pressure of exam overrides our rebellious-ness (if there is such a word). =)

[above and below] Mr Allan and his wife eating nasi lemak. Cute cute.... =P

[above and below] Us in Ausmat Cafe. I was the cameragirl. So i wasnt in the pic.
p/s: That always happen.

[above and below] Nah, this time i wasnt the cameragirl. Eheh...
This 2 pics look very similar but they are different. Care to spot the differences?

Upin & Ipin

Salam.

Well, as i mentioned earlier, i planned to watch Upin&Ipin to celebrate my father's birthday. As now is the economy crisis period, :-) my siblings refused to pay for my father's ticket. Well, we dont want him to pay for himself also, as it was his birthday so I need to fish out my own pocket money. Pssstt... JPA, please bank in our money fast... We're dry now!!!

Ok, back to Upin & Ipin, for me the movie was a very goooood one. The animation was superb and the storyline is very meaningful. Every dialogue by the characters have meaning behind it.

I was sincerely amazed with the outcome of this movie as it is a Malaysian product. I thought i was watching Star Wars! As for those who hasnt watch the movie yet, do watch it. I'm not sure if it's still on cinema or not, but it's gonna be a very big loss if you miss it.

i am not going to give the synopsis of the movie here, no point of it. There is plenty of synopsisesout there...
What i can say is the movie is very good for young children and family. It integrates moral values, educational motives, love and affection and it is an enjoyable watch! What more can i say?

Btw, upin&Ipin is very very tiny now, their height barely reach their sister's thigh. But i really wish they wont grow up. I want them to stay small, tiny and cute. Can they?
Even after my graduation, can they still be as tiny as that?
Really hope they will.
Remember how Donald Duck's nephews do not grow?
So can upin&ipin...!
=P

A Question

Salam.

Today i studied the fundamentals of the biochemistry of proteins i.e. the structure, functions, metabolism.

My lecturer said,

DNA creates protein.

He's implying that the codes for protein synthesis is coded by the DNA.
Then he goes on to ask,

So, who created DNA?

The whole auditorium went silent.
One boy sitting near to me suddenly said in a very husky voice, "GOD"...
But the boy's voice did not reach the lecturer.
I said "GOD" too, but it was more to a whisper than an answer so of course no one could hear me as well, except for Hui Fong maybe, who's sitting next to me.

He then continued to say that the creation and evolution of living things have been argued for a long time. He did not explain more, he said "Ok, let's not argue abt this and continue to our protein."

The question he asked actually made me think, why some people can't accept the fact that we are created by The Ultimate Creator? How else would the cells and all the biochemical substances in our body managed to function and carry out all the reactions if they are not designed to do so? There must be a designer to it. It doesn't come merely from evolution.

Throughout the whole lecture, the lecturer touched a lot on the complexity of the metabolism in our cells. But he always end it with another Q, how can all this happen?
And the auditorium always remain silent.

Apart from the Israel-Palestine conflict, one of the issues that captured my attention lately is the theory of evolution proposed by Charles Darwin. I've been trying to get a book by Darwin and i found out that i can get the book from The National Library. IMU library may be the best medical library but certainly not a good public library. I realised that till now, i only know that Darwin proposed a theory saying that all living things actually came from the same ancestors, which has evolved due to natural selection. But that is only a sentence out of the so many books he wrote. Surely that shows how much i havent find out.

I don't know what i can get by posting this, just feel like sharing my thought.

p/s: Today is my father's birthday. We're going to celebrate it by watching Upin & Ipin movie on cinema tonight! Luckily now is school holiday, my siblings can sleep late as they dont have to wake up for class tomorrow.

New Layout!

Salam...

Ohh yes, one girl had juz wasted about 2hrs looking for new template for her blog.

She said the former layout was too black.
Well, it is in a way.
She used to see it as
elegant and sophisticated.
But now, the layout seems to be too dark for an image of a girl.
So she decided to have a
more cheerful template for her blog.

She is also aware that some of the older posts may not look good in this new template because of the new background colour. But, she won't bother to change how the posts look like as it will consume much time.

And now, it is 11.11pm and the girl's eyes are very tired after almost one whole day staring on screens be it computer screen or tv screen. Human eyes need some rest...
Ok, that's all for now. Salam...
Good night!

Oops.. My mistake..

Salam.

I'd like to correct the mistake i made in the previous post. The one i said cancer cells are produced in our body everyday but our immune system managed to zap them all off.. Well, the statement is INCORRECT. I read about that in one of the health articles i found in the net. Oh oh, feeling real guilty for not remembering which one. But anyway, this is another article i found after much googling on different keywords.

It says, (just a few extracts)

Circulating in the email world is the statement that says “normally, we all have dormant cancer cells in our body.” Implied is the assertion that all healthy people are walking around with a time bomb within them, ready to explode.

The healthy person does not carry any cancer cell in their body, period. If every tissue in the body of a normal person is biopsied, or if a person who dies of any non-cancerous disease, like heart attack or stroke, or trauma, is autopsied from head to foot, no cancer cells will be found. The only exception to this is if the person had an undiagnosed cancer, which is incidentally found on autopsy, a finding that excludes this person from being healthy in the first place.

So, i apologises for the mistake i made.
However, as this article is also found from the net, i'm not sure which one to be trusted.
Perhaps i'll have to do more and more readings after tis.
Suddenly i end up being an oncologist after my MBBS. Hahaha...

Thanks to Global Observer for bringing up that matter in the previous comment. =)
Some findings show that HIV sufferers do have higher risk of getting cancer than normal people. But it seems the exact cause of the higher risk is still on debate. Hurm...

Finished Half of My Assignment

Salam.
Yes, half and only half...
Havent finish completely yet.

But thru my readings on healthy lifestyle and exercise (the topic of my assignment), i get to know one interesting fact.

Our body actually produces millions of cancer cells everyday. And these cancer cells are killed by our white blood cells and antibodies. Cancer will develop if our immune system somehow failed to kill these cancer cells and they survive. They start to multiply and grow. Hence, cancer occurs.

Exercise leads to muscle growth and muscle cells are the only place where extra protein can be preserved. So, those who do not exercise, will face muscle degeneration, that means, muscle cells reduced, so will our protein storage. Antibodies are made up of protein.

This means, those who lacks exercise will not have sufficient protein to make antibodies, thus cancer cells may not be wiped off completely and leads to cancer.

Interesting huh?

Well, it;s 11.59am now.
And i am still in IMU although my lecture finished 2 hours ago.
The reason is, my house is very very comfortable that i might fall asleep on the couch before doing any of my assignments.

Eheh...
Ok, salam....

p/s:
To Atikah, Ain and Fatin: Congrats! You have juz finished ur trials. Should i say "use the coming hols 2 get urself ready for the real exam" or "enjoy the hols! U need some break"?

Personally, i'll do the latter even if people advised me to do the 1st one. =p

Just A Story

Salam.
It's either i dont have the idea on what to talk about, or i dont have the time to write what i want to talk abt. Or perhaps both...

I suddenly realised that i have a lot of things to do with so little time left.
so i think in this post i'll juz tell a story, or a few if i have the time.

First Story

I was teaching some of my neighboring kids grammar a few nights ago. The topic for that nite was 'adverbs'. One of the kids asked me, "What is adverb"? At that time, i hvnt look at the questions yet so i simply said "u dont have to know what it really mean". Yikes, i had nvr remember all the names of grammar components. I only know how to use them. Nouns, adverbs, verbs, adjectives, past participle tense, present participle tense, etc... They are juz so hard to be differentiated!

But then, when i go through the questions with them, i realise that adverbs is actually a word with a -ly at the back i.e. carefully, lovingly, loudly...

So now, i can explain what adverb is...
I said, "adverb is when u add a -ly at the back of the word. In Malay, it will be the same as dengan."

I gave a few examples....

carefully - dengan berhat-hati
loudly - dengan kuat
snobbishly - dengan sombong

then....

lovely ??

I got stuck... Lovely = dengan cinta?
Oh oh... This is not good..
"You look lovely today" is just not same as "Awk nampak dengan cinta hari ni" or "Awk nmpk penuh dgn kecintaan hari ni"

So, that's the story of me teaching grammar to small kids.
How i covered up the flaw? I simply ignored lovely, and proceed to other examples.

12th March 09

Salam.

I took my SPM in 2006.
12th March 2007 was the date my SPM result being released.
Now, after 2 years, the date started to haunt me again.
Why?
Because my A Level Exam result is going to be released on 12th March 2009.

Anyway, i havent got time to post anything for this one week because i dont know what to post on. I didnt attend most of the orientation activities for this 2nd week. I dont like the obscene concerts and yes, i agree with one of my friend, Hanis. She said "we must have some limitations".

I have juz got back from Shah Alam, doing some work for the magazine.
I really cant wait for the magazine to be published!
It's gonna be awesome!
Thanks a bunch to the designers for that!

Lately, i have juz installed transformation pack for my pc, so now my pc look like a mac os pc.
Hehe...
I find it cool..

Maulidur Rasul

Today is a public holiday in Malaysia because today is 12 RabiulAwwal.
What is so special abt today? Well, today is the birthdate of our beloved prophet Muhammad pbuh.

I heard and read a lot of opinions on the celebration of this day.
Some say it's bida'ah. That is the "making up" of a festival which human say is compulsary when it is not. In short, a bida'ah is prohibited.

As for my own opinion, i'd think that there is nothing wrong with the celebration. As long as Muslims do not regard this celebration as compulsory. As long as Muslims do not think that they get hasanah@reward for celebrating this day. And as long as Muslims bear in mind that even if we did not celebrate this day, we wont be penalised.

Good muslims will always have Prophet Muhammad pbuh in their hearts.
But for some, and as for me as well, sometimes we are too excited with worldly matters that we forgot Allah's Messenger. Shame on me...

So, this celebration or perhaps better called remembrance is a way to remind us of this Messenger of Allah's. Out of all the Muslims that attend the talks, or any function for this event, undeniably not all will still have the same passion they had towards Prophet Muhammad pbuh during the celebration after a week. But surely at least one or two will maintain that passion and love. It's worth it, isn't it?

Miracle??

I got this from here.

I myself had not yet got the opportunity or determination to actually count the numbers of those words mentioned here appeared in the Quran. I believe in proving before believing. But i was very impressed with the numbers quoted here, i decided to post this on. However, i got this from the net and really hope it is the evidence to prove the numbers below.

__________________________________________________________________

Findings of Dr. Tariq Al Swaidan might grasp your attention:

Dr.Tarig Al Swaidan discovered some verses in the Holy Qur’an that mention one thing is equal to another,

i.e. men are equal to women.

Although this makes sense grammatically, the astonishing fact is that the number of
times the word man appears in Holy Qur’an is 24 and number of times the word
woman appears is also 24, therefore not only is this phrase correct in
the grammatical sense but also true mathematically, i.e. 24 = 24.

Upon further analysis of various verses, he discovered that this is consistent throughout the whole Holy Qur’an where it says one thing is like another.

See below for astonishing result of the words mentioned number of times in Arabic Holy Qur’an

Dunia (one name for life) 115 .
Aakhirat (one name for the life after this world) 115

Malaika (Angels) 88 . Shayteen (Satan) 88

Life 145 Death 145

Benefit 50 Corrupt 50

People 50 Messengers 50

Eblees (king of devils) 11 . Seek refuge from Eblees 11

Museebah (calamity) 75 . Thanks ! 75

Spending (Sadaqah) 73 . Satisfaction 73

People who are mislead 17 Dead people 17

Muslimeen 41 J Jihad 41

Gold 8 Easy life 8

Magic 60 Fitnah (dissuasion, misleading) ! 60

Zakat (Taxes Muslims pay to the poor) 32

Barakah (Increasing or blessings of wealth) 32

Mind 49 Noor 49

Tongue 25 Sermon 25

Desite 8 Fear 8

Speaking publicly 18 Publicising 18

Hardship 114 …. Patience 114

Muhammed 4 Sharee’ah (Muhammed’s teachings) 4

Man 24 . Woman 24

And amazingly enough have a look how many times the following words appear:

Salat 5, Month 12 , Day 365, (N.b. Gregorian callendar = 1582)

Sea 32, Land 13
Sea + land = 32 + 13 = 45
Sea = 32/45*100q.=71.11111111%
Land = 13/45*100 = 28.88888889%
Sea + land 100.00%

Modern science has only recently proven that the water covers
71.111% of the earth, while the land covers 28.889%.

Is this all a coincidence?

Question is "Who taught Prophet Muhammed(PBUH) all this?"
Reply automatically comes in mind ALMIGHTY ALLAH
taught him.

SubahanAllah.

Praise be to Allah

Outdoor Treasure Hunt

Salam.

We were gathered in front of IMU lobby at 8am and each group were given a map of Bkt Jalil Park where our treasure hunt is. There were altogether 7 stations we need to go to. At the beginning of the treasure hunt, we feel nice, clean and fresh. It was like having a morning walk with friends. The only difference is we need to keep up with the time.

First Station

We were divided into 2. The first group needs to make up 2 of our members into geishas. We were given flour, and Buncho poster colour as cosmetics. Another group were brought somewhere else. I dont know what happened to them but they came back with one of the guy had his shirt taken off and words were written on his back. Scientific terms such as bacteria names etc. Our group won the make up match as our geisha look more like geisha than the other group's. However, the match did not start clean. The seniors rubbed some slimy things on our arms and faces. Luckily i wore long sleeve so they did not mess up with my sleeves so much as it will be harder to remove stains from fabric than skin. But they did put extra green poster colour make up to my face.
[above] Our Geisha

[above] Me and Amanda. Dirty and colourful.

Second Station (and the worst)

This is a station conquered by Indian seniors. Some of them actually left IMU Bkt Jalil for IMU Clinical School in Seremban. But they came back here, just to rag us, new students. They prepared a pail of yet again slimy stuffs. Very very very smelly... It is mud colour, and concentrated. They asked the boys to take off their shirts, dip the shirts into the unknown chemical in the pail, squeeze it and wear the shirts back. Eeew!! All the boys smells awful that day. Those who did not wear the boot camp shirt they provided were asked to rub planta and paint on their own faces. Then we were asked to run 5 rounds of the compound, and duckwalk half a compound and run another half.

Then he asked us what is his name. His name is sooo long that until now i cant pronounce it properly. But i'm sure it ended with a 'Nair' on the back. Then he asked us to do a 'helicopter' action. I managed to get my little bro to re-act it for me to capture it on camera.

We were supposed to put our finger on the floor, and turn 5 times for girls and 15 times for boys. After 5 rounds, i got up and everything suddenly went dark and i collapsed onto the floor. The girls rushed to me to take me up from the floor. I lost my consciousness for 1 min (i think) and the senior who made us do that came to me and ask if i'm ok. But, seriously speaking, the way he asked whether i'm ok or not was very sincere and honest. Betuull... X tipu...

Which makes me realise that they just want to have fun with us without any intention of hurting us. Nasib baik....

Our OO (orientation officer) were being ragged as well. It seems our seniors are their juniors.

I left the station feeling very dizzy and tired, while the boys left the station with their very very very smelly shirts on them while some other left with green paint on their faces and planta on their hair. Again, i am very lucky that i wore tudung. My hair was very protected!

Third Station

Here, they asked us to pass salted fish from mouth to mouth. The fish wsa wrapped with paper on the edges and we stood in a line passing the fish from mouth to mouth. The fish was salty! Again, the seniors put eggs on us. Perhaps i look very different from others as i wore my tudung so, they did not actually target all the slimy thngs on me. Lucky!

Fourth Station

We were asked to play in a race that involves a member piggy-carrying another member, two members carrying another member and one more to run. Basically that's it. Not so dirty station.

Fifth Station

What did we do here?
Aaah yes...
We were asked to lie down in a line. 10 of us.
Then we were supposed to pass fruits from front to the bag using legs.
The last person will have to take the fruits and smash them into a cup.
Then, one last person will have to eat it all.
Yikes!
We lost in this race.

Sixth Station

Again, asked to line up and pass water balloons to our members.
One of us will throw the balloon to the person behind him@her and that person will have to catch the balloon using their shirts.

As the station is located on a hill, i managed to get a very beautiful scene of IMU. Yes, undeniably IMU looks very beautiful, and elegant.

[above] A closer look

Seventh Station (and the last)

This group was controlled by the First Aid Club.
They prepared a pail full of not-so-fresh chicken blood.
In the pail were coins of different values.
We were supposed to carry our member using the four-hand method (a first aid method of transporting casualties) to the pail and the member being carried will have to put his@her hand into the pail and take a coin out.
We must collect RM4.36 in order to win.
The rules are, we must not exceed the value of RM4.36.
If we decided to stop before we exceed it, it's ok. As long as the other group doesnt have a value nearer to RM4.36.
My group won this race.
Haha...
Alhamdulillah...

We were then gathered at the entrance, given nasi lemak and were asked to go back to IMU compound.

[Above] The final result of the orientation

All in all, it was fun but tiring, dirty, slimy and wet.
What do i get from this activity?
Chance to be closer with my group members.
And see to what extent can medical students be rough and tough.
Eheh...

That's all for now.
It is 12.11 am 2nd March 2009.
I have a briefing on The History of Medicine later at 8am.
Need to sleep now.
Good night!
Salam..
