A Weekend in Seremban

I went to my bestfriend, Atikah's house in Seremban for the wedding of her two elder brothers.

Hui Fong asked, "Malay weddings invite sister's friends too?"
So i answered, "Yeah".
Haha...

Atikah has a lot of elder brothers (5 of them!).
And I dont have any.
So i felt so weird seeing Atikah with all her brothers..Ahah...
But she looks happy though, good for her.
I dont know if i can stand 5 elder brothers bullying me around. =P

This is the picture of 3 of Atikah's brothers. I always think they look similar

Being the eldest in the family, I didnt have the opportunity to see any of my siblings getting married.
Once, my uncle got married but I was too small that i didnt remember to remember anything.
But this time, knowing somebody before they go on the pelamin (altar?) feels weird.
I know her brothers and sister-in-laws even before they got married.
So when i saw them on the altar, i felt happy for them.
Because they got married, now they are together.
It's not that i'd never attend any wedding function before this but in those functions, i barely know the brides and grooms. Thus i wasnt able to share their happiness.
Now i realised that i always imagined those couples are actually getting married because their family asked them too. Weird huh? And mean too..

There was a "tarian piring" (plate dance?) for the newly-weds.

Abg In and Kak Ana
"I'm calling them the names Atikah calls them"

Abg Hafidz and Kak Yana. Atikah calls Abg Hafidz as "Abg Ngah".
I hv nvr call her brother yet. Haha..
I think calling him Abg Hafidz shd be appropriate.

And i managed to snap a few pictures with the brides and grooms!

And oh ya!
Atikah's first nephew is very very very cute!!!
"Tikah, bila dia besar nanti, bagi dia baca post ni ek? Hehe..."
Her nephew's name is Haris. He is Atikah's first brother's first son.
Haris is very fair, cute and adorable.
He is certainly the treasure of his family now.
With 5 uncles, 4 aunts and 2 sets of grandparents, Haris is never alone.
Somebody will always be there to play with him, to dance with him, to feed him, to sleep with him, to bath him, or just for the sake of observing him.

Haris made a sudden killer pose by kissing Atikah when i clicked the camera. Atikah bragged this around the house! Eheh... I will too if I'm in Atikah's place.

Atikah, devoted to her beloved nephew
The boy shd be calling her "Auntie Kah".
But there's no way he'll be calling me "Auntie Mar" like Atikah suggested. Haha...

But also, there is something that saddened me during this event.
Atikah broke the news to me: "She's flying to India on Sept 11"
Which is only abt 1 month from now!

Huhuhu...
I'm so sad..

She'll be leaving me.

And sooner or later Fatin and Ain will be leaving me too.
They will all fly abroad to further their study, to work hard for their future career.
Leaving me here in Malaysia alone.
There will be no more Akasia 7407 2007-2009 residents.
(The "Auld Lang Syne" song should come into ur minds now)

I wish the best for all of us...
May Allah bless our effort.

Last but not the least, I pray that Atikah's brothers; Muhd Salihin and Muhd Hafidz marriage to last till death do them apart and may Allah bless them and their family. Amin.

Cheerio!

Time Machine

If i can travel to the past:

1) I'll stop by my Form 3 Literature cls.
At that time i was supposed to answer some Qs based on the "Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde".
The questions were abt the time setting of the story.
And the word that made me crazy on that day was "fog".

I think that was the first time in my life that i saw the word "fog".
And i didnt know what it mean.
A mispelled frog?
A kind of frog?
A fruit?
A place?
Another word for alley?
I didnt have a clue.

Usually i was one of the talkative students in English class, answering teacher's question, competing with another classmate of mine to see who finish our work the fastest etc etc.
But on that day i was quiet. Sat at my desk, pretending to answer the Qs when i didnt know how to do.
And so English class finished, some other teacher came in and that exercise remain unanswered in my school bag.

2) I will also stop at one month before my A Level trial in INTEC.
I will not spend my time studying in the library the way i did.
Because how i spent my time there gave me an unsolved problem until now.
I will STILL spend time studying in the library, but in a different way.

3) Then i will stop at my Form 1 girl guide camping.
I went for a camping and i lost my UPSR-gift watch while bathing.
I took it off, put it on the rack in the toilet but forgot to put it on again.
I left the toilet without my watch.
And when i came back, it was gone.

There are other situations i'd like to travel to...
But of course, i can never travel to the past.
And i accepted that eveything that happened had happened.
And i'm sure if those things did not happen, i'm not going to be what i am now.
Even if i am given a chance to travel to the past, i'll give a really really deep thought whether i'm ready to face the consequences.
And of course, as a Muslim, all that happened has already been destined for me.
It's my task to accept it and make my best out of it.
=)

So, cheers!
Life is a test...

Boycott Israel!

Assalammualaikum.

When i first talked abt "Boycott Israel", i received various feedback from my friends.
Some of whom supported, some laughed, some shocked, some doubted my ability and some chose to ignore.
The word boycott suddenly became synonym with my name (once, not now).
Lucky enough, the word wasnt used to boycott me, but merely as a joke; which i honestly do not mind.
Some of my friends know that if they go out with me, the possibility to have lunch at McD is an absolute zero.

But now, the boycott campaign is fading off among some of the Malaysians.
Merely for the fact that the media is no more talking abt it so most people do not know that it is still going on.
In January 09, almost every newspaper featured news abt this organisation planning to boycott this, that organisation planning to boycott that etc etc, on every single day.
But now, those news are replaced by more interesting and sell-able news; the dirty politics in Malaysia, the scandals among Malaysian polticians, the accusations of Malaysian politician towards another politician etc etc.

Oh, i need to get to my point now, enough of introduction.

On 15th August 09 (Saturday), COMPLETE Malaysia is holding a massive boycott campaign.

First of all, supporters are to gather at Lobby Menara DBKL 1, Jln Raja Laut at 9am to purchase or to get their 'boycott' tshirts for free.

Students will get their tshirts FREE with the condition that they produce their valid student ID card. Only one tshirt per card.
For non-students, t shirt is RM25 for adult and RM20 for child.

At 10am, there will be a short address by COMPLETE and the VIPs and wearing of the tshirt.

At 11am food will be distributed and supporters will be divided into groups, train tickets will be provided, and the supporters will travel to selected shopping complexes in KL in group, wearing the 'boycott' tshirt.

On the tshirt, there will be logos of the 4 companies which obviously invested in Israel. The names of the 4 companies will be announced on the day itself.

Anybody who is concerned abt the Palestinians and an upholder of the human rights are invited to join the boycott regardless of religion, gender, race or age.
And, i was told that this is the only activity that IPT stdnts are ALLOWED to participate.
Means:

DO NOT WORRY OF HANDCUFFS OR ISA OR CANCELLATION OF SCHOLARSHIP.

But, as usual, it is a first come first serve basis.
Late comers might not get the free shirts.
Punctuality is important.
Hope to see you there!

p/s: For muslim girls, the shirts are short sleeves. If possible, get a black long sleeved inner shirt. =)
For more information of boycott israel campaign, visit http://www.inminds.co.uk/boycott-israel.html or just google boycott Israel.
The campaign is worldwide, not only in Malaysia.
We are not sticking out like a sore thumb.

I Wonder How Much Profit do They Get?

Assalammualaikum.

Lately i hv been spending a lot of time in EMO (the bookstore in IMU) to find out what books are available, their prices and which one suits me best.
I also called the legendary Kamal Bookstore in KL to ask for their prices so that i can compare their prices.
And from what i know, EMO and Kamal are really competing neck and neck to win the students hearts.

When i first got the price from Kamal, it was obvious that Kamal gave a better price, cheaper.
But the cost of me travelling there, and the time; i am not so keen to spend on that.
So today i went to EMO and ask if he can give me a lower price.
Then he said it's better if i buy in group because then he will not have trouble managing the students.
Imagine 200 students come to buy books individually.
And so, he will give a cheaper price for group booking.

But, i do not like to buy in group, especially a very large group because there will be a lot of delays. There are so many ppl to cater to and i bet the books will only reach us by next week the earliest.

To cut the story short, EMO gave me a better price, cheaper than Kamal's.
So, let's get this right again and this time i'll give an example.

First time (last week) i asked, the "book" was RM 188 in EMO and RM175 in Kamal.
Then today i asked, the book is RM149 in EMO. (I'm not revealing the title of the book =P)
So, the difference between last week and this week is RM41!
I can buy one of the Twilight saga novel with that money!

Another example:
Last week in EMO RM85, in Kamal RM75.
Today in EMO RM60.
That makes the difference between last week and this week price in EMO is RM25.

And one more, Kamal is claiming that the new edition for a book is coming out in 10 days time while EMO claimed that new edition is coming out only in late December.

And one more example,
Last week: Kamal: RM60, EMO: RM108.
Today EMO: RM82
But the difference between Kamal's and EMO's is too much so, EMO said Kamal is selling Indian version. And Indian version of textbook cannot be brought to the countries we are heading to for our clinical years.

Anyway, there is an advantage these two shops are competing; students get a better price.
But there is also a disadvantage; students get confused.

And i'm really wondering how much is the cost of the books actually?
If the price can differ by almost RM20, and i'm sure the bookstore which give cheaper price STILL gain their profit, the cost of the book must be very low!
Only if my father is a bookstore owner..
Hahaha...

Air Mata Gaza - Univ Malaya

p/s: The links (videos, musics are not available yet. Will update when i can) 5.28pm 1st Aug 09
updated 11.16pm 1st Aug 09 - Added video of poem recitation.
updated 7.28 am 2nd Aug 09 - Added links to music and video of "Tell Me Why"
updated 5.29 pm 3rd Aug 09 - Added video of "We Will Not Go Down"

Assalammualaikum.
I had just come back from Univ Malaya for Air Mata Gaza Campaign in conjunction with Ekspo Perubatan Islam Malaysia (EPISMA).

The campaign was held in Auditorium Tun Mohamed Suffian in the Law Faculty UM.

The event started with a singing of the Asma-ul-Husna by the the audience and VIPs; something i ncr experience before.
Usually events, ceremonies start off with the national anthem (if the organiser wanted to) but Asma-ul-Husna (the 99 names of Allah) has nvr been sang as the "ceremony opener" in the events i went to.
So, congratulations to the organiser!

The event kicked start with an explanation on the situation and what COMPLETE is fighting for; the complete withdrawal of the zionists from Palestine land. The briefing was given by Mr Adnan b. Mat Tahir, the President of COMPLETE Malaysia.

Mr Adnan in action

The video clips shown; We Will Not Go Down by Michael Heart and Tell Me Why by Declan Galbraith catched my attention.
I will post the videos in this post, do take some time to watch it, thanks!

There was also a talk on the history of Palestine by Mr Zun Arif Hakim from Palestine Centre of Excellence (PACE).

He gave a brief but clear history of Palestine with a few hadiths to support his call for Muslims in the world to give attention to the problems faced by the Palestinians.

Mr Zun Arif

Among other talks during the event was "A Sharing Moment" by PM Dr Mohamed Ikram; an anaesthetist from MERCY Malaysia who had the opportunity to help in Gaza after the attack by terrorists in January this year.

He showed a lot of pictures and he told us what the Palestinian fighters told him.
That they had managed to destroy more than 50 (i couldnt remember the exact no) of Israeli armed vehicles but this news was not told to the world; Israel couldnt bear the shame that their most advanced tanks were being destroyed by the supposedly weak Palestinians.

There was also a poem recitation session; the poem is entitled "Bukan Binatang" and was recited by Nik Ahmad Hatim. I guess he is a UM student.

Oh..!
I managed to buy a Palestine scarf today...! =P
Together with a bumper sticker for my car. =)
The thing is, i forgot to bring my purse so, thanks Diana for lending me ur money. =P
I was completely "empty" just now; without an IC nor driving license.

There was also a performance by MESTICA nasyeed group during the event.
Honestly, i didnt know abt the existence of this group until today.
What i can say is, i like the songs by this group. Though i'm not so into music thus i cant comment much but still, i'd say their songs are worth to be listened to.

They sang 3 songs just now. (Click on the song title to listen to the song on IMEEM)

1. Salahuddin Al Ayyubi
2. Rahmat Ujian
3. Layar Keinsafan

MESTICA nasyeed group.

There were also announcement on the "Boycott Israel T-Shirt Walkaround" organised by COMPLETE Malaysia to recruit students to participate in the walkaround.
InsyaAllah i'll be participating in it.

After the event in the auditorium, the campaign was continued with roadshow; which requires the audience to walk around the hostels in UM distributing pamphletes to other students.
But due to time constrain, i wasnt able to join the roadshow and i went back earlier.

But, there is one thing i am very disappointed with.
The attendance!
The auditorium was not even half filled!
Where had all the UM students go?
Well sorry, not only UM students (there were only 4 stdnts from IMU) but why dont an event like this receive tremendous support from students?
Why a concert can have their ticket fully booked 2 weeks before the concert?
How come students can reserve their day to watch Transformers, Harry Potter on cinema on the releasing day but cant allocate half a day for an event like this?

There was a predicition;

Muslims cant succeed before their men go for Subuh prayers together like they go for Friday prayers.

If an event held in the afternoon like this cant get enough audience, how to expect a mosque full of Muslims during Subuh prayers?

I hope IMU will be able to conduct an event like this to raise awareness amon IMU students.
But i realised that IMU will never be able to conduct events like this if there are no students willing to contribute their time and energy to make it happen.
So that means i'll need to rephrase my hope:

"I hope i'll be able to contribute my energy and time for an event like this to be conducted in IMU"

=)
